Iron Maiden wow at spectacular opening UK tour date at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena

Iron Maiden wow at spectacular opening UK tour date at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena

Metal gods Iron Maiden kicked off the UK leg of their Book of Souls World Tour with a spectacular sold-out show at Nottingham Motorpoint Arena last night (4th May).

Proceedings started shortly after 3pm for Planet Rock when we boarded Iron Maiden’s very own tour bus, The Bus of Souls, to travel to the show in fine style alongside the band’s legendary manager Rod Smallwood.

Bedecked with luxurious leather seats, anthems from Iron Maiden’s distinguished four-decade back catalogue pumped out of the bus’s soundsystem, while an unlimited supply of Trooper Beer and the devilishly strong Red N’ Black porter were served up to those on board.

An event in itself, travelling up the M1 the bus was met with a cavalcade of car horns and Signs of the Horns from countless metalheads heading to the show.

Then, like a football team arriving for a cup final, The Bus of Souls was rapturously greeted with cheers from a sea of fervent Maiden fans as it pulled up at the Motorpoint Arena.

After Paul Anthony caught up with both Steve Harris and Nicko McBrain backstage for two exclusive chats, the now traditional sounds of UFO’s ‘Doctor Doctor’ and a stunning intro video signalled the arrival of Iron Maiden to the palpably euphoric arena’s stage.

From the moment they tore into set opener ‘If Eternity Should Fail’, Iron Maiden were a finely honed live beast with Steve, Dave, Adrian, Nicko and Janick providing the unbelievably tight and polished musical backdrop and Bruce running around like a self-professed “man half my age.”

The setlist itself was exactly the same as their opening European shows in Belgium and Germany, with 2016 Book of Souls World Tour staples ‘Tears of a Clown’ and ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ booted off the setlist in favour of ‘Wrathchild’ and ‘The Great Unknown.’

As a whole, the setlist was dominated by The Book of Souls with six tracks making the cut, while The Number of the Beast had two songs featured. Brave New World, Fear of the Dark, Iron Maiden, Killers, Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Somewhere in Time were represented by a song apiece.

An all-consuming live spectacle throughout, highlights included the arrival of the giant inflatable Mayan Eddie during ‘Iron Maiden’, the horned goat/devil during ‘The Number of the Beast’, Bruce donning an ape mask and “climbing like a monkey” during ‘Death Or Glory’ and the fearsome Eddie battle that culminated with Bruce ripping out the beloved mascot’s glowing heart and throwing it into the crowd.

At one point, Bruce launched into a rant after a fan threw a plastic bottle of American beer onto the stage. “Why the f*** do they sell that s** here?!”, the incredulous frontman asked. “Why sell that in this country when we make perfectly good beers of our own?”

The ale connoisseur then told the 10,000-capacity crowd he was going to educate American fans to the ways of British beers when they’re over there this summer.

Elsewhere, Bruce revealed that this will be the last time fans get to witness the Mayan ruins stage setup – when the Book of Souls World Tour wraps up, they will be back with a brand-new stage.

In an apt moment of togetherness, before penultimate song ‘Blood Brothers’, Bruce picked out all of the international flags in the crowd from Germany, Argentina, Italy and beyond.

He explained that in these times of deep division when the powers that be are trying to pit people of all races against each other, Maiden fans are always the most inclusive peaceful crowds.

“We don’t give a f*** where you come from or what colour your skin is – if you’re Maiden, you’re welcome,” Bruce told the crowd.

6. The Red And The Black

Ghost summons disciples for Video Shoot!

Ghost summons disciples for Video Shoot!

According to The Pulse Of Radio, GHOST has put out a call for 100 extras to show up in the Detroit area on May 6 for what appears to be a video shoot. The post announcing the event stated: "We wish to inform you that GHOST is looking for 100 extras who are available May 6th for four hours. The location is within the city limits of Detroit. We will directly communicate the location to our select 100 the day of the shoot. Please come dressed and ready."

The statement adds: "Clothing is required to be: Church-Going Sunday Clothes, Suits and/or Dress shirts, Dresses and Sunday Hats if you have. Keep makeup and general appearance on the NORMAL side of the spectrum."

Fans are asked to email a photo and/or headshots to the video producer at production@christianlathers.com, with "GHOST: EXTRAS" in the subject line.
It is not known whether the band is shooting a video for a song from last fall's "Popestar" EP or for something new entirely.

Strangely, Pollstar lists GHOST as playing in Buenos Aires on May 6. The band starts a North American tour in support of IRON MAIDEN on June 3 in Bristow, Virginia.

GHOST has been the subject of intense speculation recently following the dismissal of the band's entire lineup last December by singer/founder Tobias Forge — who performs as Papa Emeritus — and a recent lawsuit filed against Forge by four ex-members, known previously only as Nameless Ghouls.

Body Count cover Slayer’s Raining Blood

And in other news ..Bodycount recall impromptu cover of slayer's Raining Blood

Body Count have released another video in their series showing behind-the-scenes footage from their Bloodlust sessions.

The follow-up to 2014’s Manslaughter was released at the end of March and features contributions from Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy’s Max Cavalera and Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe.

The record also includes a cover of Slayer classic Raining Blood – and in the latest video, bassist Vincent Price speaks about how he approached the track in the studio.

He says: “I got this phone call from Ice T at the same time he told me about trying to find people to be on this record.

“He goes, ‘Vince, I want to cover Raining Blood.’ I’m thinking, ‘Wait a minute, Raining Blood starts with the end of Postmortem.’

“I was like, ‘You know what? Let’s put a twist on it – start our Raining Blood and then end with Postmortem, which I do vocals on.”

The rest of the video shows the band talking together in the studio, footage of recording sessions and audio clips from the album.

Watch it below.

Ice-T previously said of the decision to release a new Body Count album: “Music happens in climates. Groups like Rage Against The Machine and Korn were born when the world was in turmoil, then music went into this delusional period where hip-hop became about nothing more than poppin’ bottles.

“Now we have impending doom again, racism is at an all-time high and it’s our season again. This is the optimal time for a Body Count record.”

Motorhead's 'Road Crew' Beer Wins 'Best Newcomer' Award at

Motorhead's 'Road Crew' Beer Wins 'Best Newcomer' Award at

Congratulations to Motorhead and their ‘Road Crew’ American Pale Ale! The newly released brew took home the “Freshly Spilt: Best Newcomer” award at the 2017 Carouser Awards as voted by the public!

It was no contest as the Motorhead beer captured 57.9 percent of the public vote, which is especially impressive considering Iron Maiden‘s ‘Trooper Red ‘N’ Black’ porter from Robinsons Brewery was amongst the competition. Other nominees included Siren Brewery’s ‘Carribean Chocolate Cake’ and Tiny Rebel’s ‘FrambUZI.’

Simon Ritson, brand ambassador for Röad Crew commented on the achievement, stating, “It is truly amazing to have won this award considering the fantastic beers we were up against plus the fact the beer was only launched in December. We take even more pride that the award was voted for by the public and we really appreciate that the fans of Road Crew took the time to vote for us. Road Crew has received some amazing support since it was launched and we hope that this will be the start of many awards to come.”

Earlier in the week, we reported that Megadeth’s ‘A Tout le Monde’ ale was awarded a Gold Medal from the Beverage Tasting Institute in Chicago, scoring 93 points which qualified the brew as “exceptional.”

While the loss of Lemmy Kilmister will always sting, it’s great to see the Motorhead brand carrying on strong. Not all is over on the musical front either, as a posthumous debut solo album from Lem is expected to arrive later this year.

Rammstein News! ’35 Songs Almost Finished’ In Preparation For Next Album

Rammstein News! ’35 Songs Almost Finished’ In Preparation For Next Album

 Well ,its about time! ......almost....

Rammstein are well on their way to crafting their seventh studio album. In an interview to promote their new live DVD, Rammstein Paris, guitarist Richard Kruspe revealed the German industrial metal legends have “35 songs almost finished.”

Rammstein Paris looks to be the band’s most refined live concert experience to-date. The heavily cinematic two-hour show is visual almost to the point of being a horror film, with the video for “Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen?” featuring distortion over frontman Till Lindemann’s face and fireworks in the singer’s hands.

During an interview about Rammstein Paris, Kruspe and guitarist Paul Landers spoke about the band’s future plans. “We have 35 new songs almost finished,” Kruspe revealed to ARD Mediathek. “So it’s worth the wait.” When asked when the next album will see a release, Kruspe answered, “That is always the big question.”

Landers added, “There’s a great chance of an excellent album. We already have six very good songs.”

Rammstein Paris will see a worldwide release May 19. As for Rammstein’s first full-length since 2009, we’ll have to remain patient for the six-piece to keep rounding up new tracks.
